X abused cat with urine problem?

My cat pees(no - she sprays, which is totally unfix-able) on the carpet when she is affected by who knows what. She was abused and is a rescued cat, so her behavior is expected, although its becoming expensive replacing carpet. It causes fights and anxiety between my husband and I. What do I do?, Pergo? Linoleum? Tile?, Euthanasia?, Everything seems so expensive in these economic times.. I need a Martha Stuart kind of answer...
