I need help for my roast beef!?

I just found a recipe online it got high reviews, but most people cooked it in the slow cooker, I really do not want to use my slow cooker and the recipe calls for me to put it in a kettle, not sure what that is though? Can I just put it in a big pan and cook on the stove? and when I say big pan I mean the type you would make stews in- a little bigger then my slow cooker
